About Ceylon Theatres

Ceylon Theatres has been associated with the entertainment industry in the country for over 90 years with its primary focus on movie production and exhibition in Sri Lanka. The Company owned and operated a string of cinemas in various parts of the country including such well-known destinations such as Regal Colombo, Empire, and Majestic Cinemas.

The Company also set up the first film production and processing facilities in the country with the establishment of Ceylon Studios Ltd in 1956, thus paving the way for the development of local film production expertise.

Despite the Company’s first production “Asokamala” being unsuccessful, the Company persevered to subsequently produce hit films such as “Golu Hadawatha”, “Akkara Paha”, “Sakman Maluwa” etc. The hit film “Nidhanaya” was adjudged the best Sri Lankan film produced in the past 50 years.

The Company presently operates nineteen screens across eight locations – Majestic Cineplex (Colombo), Regal (Jaffna), Regal (Colombo), Regal (Gampaha) Regal (Dematagoda), Regal Nuwara Eliya, Regal (Katubedda) and Regal (Bandarawela). Movies are screened in Sinhala, English, Tamil and Hindi Languages.

Ceylon Theatres continues to invest in setting up new cinemas and upgrading the facilities in the existing cinemas. This is to ensure that CT cinemas would provide the best entertainment and facilities, while strongly committing to the development of the movie industry in the country.
